Our aerosol production line was rebuilt in May 2012 when we acquired a new product called ‘Batiste’ which is a very popular dry shampoo. This line produces ‘Nair’ hair removal sprays and mousses, ‘Arrid’ deodorants, femfresh deodorants and now ‘Batiste’. In 2013 the line produced 19.6 million cans of product made up from around 78 million separate components such as cans, caps, actuators etc. The line runs 24 hours 7 days per week and these numbers are expected to increase as we invest further and our Batiste sales grow.
The high speed Arm & Hammer toothpaste line produces 75ml tubes in cartons for both domestic and export markets. In 2011 we produced 9.5 million tubes of toothpaste on this line which is 1 of 20 production lines at Folkestone.
In house testing is performed by our Technical team. Over the year around 10,000 samples of finished product are collected on line by the operators and then tested in our Folkestone labs with around 5 tests per sample. We would also carry out around 2,000 tests from processing bulks over a year where we sample from a batch before it is separated into manageable amounts at the point of manufacture.
Quality control inspections take place per line continually each hour of our production. For just our Arm & Hammer tube line, our QC inspections total about 3,700 tests per year. At Folkestone we undertake around 25,000 QC checks and tests per year.
femfresh is produced at Folkestone from raw material manufacture to packed, ready to ship, finished product. It is one of our large bottle range and we produce around 4.5 million bottles per year down one production line. To fill that many bottles we make around 1,000 tonnes of femfresh bulk.
We make the majority of bulk product that we put into our cans, tubes, bottles etc at Folkestone. We have around 20 processing vessels with volumes ranging from 10,000 kg down to 52 kg. In 2011 we produced just less than 7,000 tonnes of bulk products covering all our range.
Pearl Drops run down our newest production line at around 120 bottles per minute. The line is fully automated and has several robots undertaking tasks along the line including automatically weighing 25% of everything that is produced for quality control purposes. We used around 95 million components per year to make up the finished product. To fill the bottles we make around 118 tonnes of Pearl Drops paste per year.
Under controlled conditions we produce and sell around the world about 13 million cans of Sterimar per year. Broken down that is 455 individual bulks made for 6 different variants of Sterimar.
